A local guide is only useful if you can trust it. This page explains how we gather information, how we decide what to include and how we keep money from influencing what we say.
Where our information comes from
- Official sources: the City of Bay City's website, the Michigan DNR, county and state agencies.
- Venues and organizers: event dates come from each venue's own calendar or ticket page.
- Public references: encyclopedias and published histories for background facts, which we cite at the end of each guide.
- Public maps and business websites for addresses, phone numbers and links.
How we write guides
Our guides are written by the Bay City Guide team from those sources. We check facts against more than one source when we can, soften claims we cannot confirm, avoid unsupported superlatives such as "best," and say plainly when sources disagree. Dates are labeled with the day we last confirmed them, and we tell you to check with the organizer, because details change.
How we choose listings
Free listings include local businesses and organizations that serve Bay City residents and visitors. We do not charge for them and we do not rank them. We removed star ratings because they change constantly and we cannot verify them. A listing is not an endorsement.
Advertising, sponsorships and affiliate links
- Google AdSense ads are chosen by Google and are labeled "Advertisement."
- Sponsor ads that we sell directly are labeled "Sponsored."
- Featured listings are paid placements and carry a "Featured" badge.
- Amazon affiliate links appear in a few guides, with a disclosure. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Products are general suggestions, not tested endorsements.
Payment never buys a favorable write-up, and we will not publish an advertiser's claims as our own facts.
Corrections
If we get something wrong, we want to fix it. Contact us or use the correction form. We correct factual errors promptly and update the date on the page.
